Our Story

My name is Jayme, and I started Cherish Legal LLC in 2021 after spending many years pondering why I had gone to law school.

When I applied to Wisconsin back in 2009, I knew it was because I liked rules. I had been working in software development, and I found it intriguing how specific the software rules needed to be in order to get an end-product that met business needs. I was curious about how the rule of law impacts the behavior of individuals and society. If you had any doubts about my nerdy-ness, I’m sure they’re gone now!

After graduating from law school, my husband and I moved with our newborn to California. I know you’ll find it hard to believe, but there were no jobs for people who loved talking about rules. But food had to be on the table, and we were living in the heart of Silicon Valley.

So back to work I went—spending the next four years working in software development and process improvement. I paid dues to the Wisconsin Bar, but I barely thought about working as a lawyer.

We moved home to the Midwest after four years in the Golden State, and I tried being a stay-at-home mom to our three kids. I have never worked so hard in all my life. I love being a mom, but being at home all day with a baby was more than I could handle.

I started learning about entrepreneurship and tried my hand at a few different business endeavors. But, my heart wasn’t really in any of the businesses I tried to create. I had a hard time believing that the products and services I provided were truly valuable.

The world went topsy-turvy in 2020, and suddenly I had three kids at home who needed constant supervision and support. I gave up on doing anything work-related and dove into homeschooling my kids.

A few months later, I turned off the news and I realized that I needed to move forward with becoming an attorney or stop paying my bar dues. I decided to take the Illinois Bar Exam in the middle of a pandemic while homeschooling three kids and doing the other pandemic-inspired things (grow a garden! raise bees! bake bread!).

As I studied for the bar, I remembered how it felt to be good at something. After trying to homeschool my kids, I needed the confidence boost!

After I got my results (passed!), I started to look into the different areas of law that I thought would be intellectually stimulating, personally fulfilling, and also allow me to still be around for my family on my schedule.

I know the struggles of being a mom - my three kids are all elementary-aged or younger - and I wanted to do something to help other moms protect their kids.

I also know the struggles of being a small business owner - see failed businesses above - and I wanted to do something to help other business owners feel confident.

Most of us know that we need an estate plan, but the obstacles to getting a plan in place are big.

I opened Cherish Legal LLC to serve families and small business owners in a way that is convenient and easy for them. My innovative estate planning process is done 100% remotely and on your own time.

I want to help you protect those you cherish most. I want to help you look your greatest fears in the eye and know that you have a plan in place if that day comes.

I don’t just want to be there for a few weeks to get things started; I want to partner with you throughout your life or the life of your business to make sure that you’re protected and your family is protected before you’re faced with tragedy or catastrophe.

I can’t wait to work with you.
